Practical Pest Control Tips That Really Work

Silverfish - Residential Pest Control Tips You Can Rely On

Silverfish are a pest often found in Australia that tend to invade your laundry, bathrooms, kitchens, and other areas of the home in which there are damp, humid conditions. Although there are tips you can take to ensure the problem is resolved, many homeowners often find that calling in residential pest control is the easiest, most stress-free way of getting rid of the creatures for good.

Feeding on things such as sugar, starch and cellulose, you will find the pest in a number of places, munching through a variety of things in your home. Sugar, pasta, coffee, and other food sources are often where they will head to, but they'll also live in fabrics and carpets, wallpaper, within books, and even on paintings. When you take this into consideration, you can start to see what preventative measures you can take to ensure they don't become a problem in your home.

As far as pest control goes, the more you protect yourself, the less of a problem you will have. Silverfish are looking for food, such as those listed above, so by eliminating or clearing away their source of food, there's a good chance they will either die, or go looking elsewhere. Either way, the problem is solved.

Keeping things clean and damp-free is another way in which you can ensure you keep silverfish at bay and avoid the need for calling in pest control for an out-of-hand invasion, and a dehumidifier will often do the trick, especially in poorly ventilated and damp rooms. You might even find opening the windows will help from time to time to get rid of some of the damp conditions.

Any standing water should be removed as soon as possible to ensure DIY pest control - this stagnant, standing water will attract a number of animals into your home, silverfish being just one of them. You will also want to make sure you are keeping things clean, vacuuming regularly, and giving the carpets a really good, deep clean from time to time.

If you already have a silverfish infestation, you may want to consider the idea of a dehumidifier if you'd rather not call in the help of residential pest control company just yet, and a strong pesticide can also help to kill off any that have made up home in yours. A residual insecticide will do the trick, but you will need to buy enough of it to cover the perimeter of the area in which the pests have gotten in, and also slightly outside of that to ensure every last one of the critters is dealt with.

Although there are certain residential pest control measures you can do yourself DIY-style, it is often wise to call in the help of the pest control professionals to ensure the job is done safely and correctly.

About Me

Practical Pest Control Tips That Really Work

Hi, I’m Mike and I run a small farm with my family. When I moved out of the city to start a new life a few years ago, I was looking forward to getting closer to nature and to learning how to manage some livestock and crops. Nobody warned me, however, that I’d also quickly have to learn how to manage pests – you can’t pick and choose what kind of animals and bugs you have to deal with around this place! So, a few years on and with some useful advice from my neighbours under my belt, I’ve got pretty darn good at keeping pests at bay. In the spirit of paying it back, I’ve started this blog to help people who are looking for quick and effective solutions to all kinds of pest problems.
