3 Benefits of Electronic Mouse Traps

The market provides two different kinds of mouse traps: electronic and wooden. Both types will help put an end to your mouse problem, so it can seem like a no-brainer to go for the cheapest option, the traditional wooden model. However, electronic traps are some of the best on the market, and there are several reasons you should strongly consider investing in one of them instead of the wooden ones.

Incredibly Effective

Like conventional spring-loaded traps, electronic traps tempt mice with a small piece of bait. However, the latter lures a mouse into the trap, and then into a small tunnel. When it steps on a certain plate, it completes an electrical circuit and is electrocuted.

This makes it the most humane of all deadly traps, since the mouse is killed almost instantaneously without even knowing what happened. Once a mouse has entered the chamber it cannot escape, and most models will deposit the body in a collection draw, meaning that it is reset for another mouse. A spring-loaded trap is usually effective, but not always, and needs to be cleaned and reset before reuse.

Easy to Safe to Set up

Since mice have very poor vision, and tend to follow the edges of rooms, traps are most effective when placed against walls. Electronic models are designed perfectly, with an entrance which fits seamlessly against these locations. All you need to do is turn it on and place some bait, so there's no risk of the bar snapping back on your fingers.

It's also safe to use around pets, since the entrance is too small for them, and around young children. A blinking light tells you when the collection tray is full, when a kill has occurred, and when the batteries are low, so maintenance is minimal.

No Mess

The worst thing about spring-loaded traps is the mess which they create. In order to kill quickly, the mechanism has to be powerful, which often means that you'll need to remove a split-open corpse. This can actually attract other pests, and the clean-up can be extremely unpleasant.

With an electronic mouse trap, the dead mouse is never directly visible until you open the tray. When you do, the rodent will simply look like it is sleeping, and you'll be able to dispose of it more easily. The trap itself will be free of blood and entrails, so only a quick, occasional clean is ever necessary.

Wooden traps might be cheaper, and can still be useful for larger environments with a greater mouse population, but electronic models are a perfect choice for home use. Consult pest control services about these and other options to get rid of mice in your home.

About Me

Practical Pest Control Tips That Really Work

Hi, I’m Mike and I run a small farm with my family. When I moved out of the city to start a new life a few years ago, I was looking forward to getting closer to nature and to learning how to manage some livestock and crops. Nobody warned me, however, that I’d also quickly have to learn how to manage pests – you can’t pick and choose what kind of animals and bugs you have to deal with around this place! So, a few years on and with some useful advice from my neighbours under my belt, I’ve got pretty darn good at keeping pests at bay. In the spirit of paying it back, I’ve started this blog to help people who are looking for quick and effective solutions to all kinds of pest problems.
